Mr. Robert J. Teufel '59, P'91, GP'16

Robert Teufel presents a career of innovation and leadership in publishing, direct and Interactive marketing. As President and a director of Rodale, Inc. from 1979 to 2000 he grew the company to a recognized world leader in health, home and garden, and active sports media.  At Rodale, he developed the title and concept of Men's Health magazine, now with 26 international editions and recognized by media as “one of the decade’s most successful magazine launches.” Under his leadership Rodale grew its book business to among America’s leaders in revenue and books sold.

Mr. Teufel served as Chairman of the Magazine Publishers of America and a member of its executive committee. He received the industry’s highest honor The Henry Johnson Fisher Award for achievement. He chaired the American Magazine Conference and The Magazine Congress. Teufel also served as a magazine director of The Audit Bureau of Circulation

He served as board chairman of The Direct Marketing Association and is a member of its Hall of Fame as well as The Circulation Council Hall of Fame. Teufel was named Marketer of the Year by Direct Marketing Day in New York as well as The Philadelphia Direct Marketing Club. He also served as Chairman and Director of The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation.

Active in conservation and the environment, he served as National Chairman of Trout Unlimited and a member of its executive committee. He is a director of The Cold Water Conservation Fund and is its immediate past Chairman as well as a past Chairman of The Wildlands Conservancy.

He is a member of the board of Hart Energy,Inc.  and AppMobi, Inc. and a past director of Dauphin Deposit Corp (NASDAQ), Stealth Media, Inc., Active Data Exchange, LLC, Magazine of the Month, Inc. and past President of Abenaki Publishing, Inc.

Mr. Teufel is active at his alma mater, serving as class agent, visiting committee member.  He received Lehigh’s Alumni Award and chaired the development committee for Coppee Hall, the home of the journalism department. He was a twelve year member of the Board of Trustees of Chestnut Hill College.

A graduate of Lehigh with a BA in Journalism, Teufel served as a Captain in the United States Air Force (Reserve) before beginning his Rodale career.

Mr. Teufel resides in Emmaus, PA with his wife Anne. They have three grown children.
