Mr. Michael F. Hoben '61, '90P

 
Michael Hoben retired as President, CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Benefit Capital Management Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dow Chemical Company.  He had overall responsibility for managing and investing over $5 billion in equity, fixed income and venture capital assets.

Prior to his affiliation with Dow Chemical and its predecessor, Union Carbide Corporation, he was Manager of Trust Investments at Exxon Corporation.  In that position he directed all internally managed fixed-income and equity investments.  From early 1973 to 1978 Mr. Hoben was Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager at the investment firm of T Rowe Price.  His responsibilities included managing large pension and endowment portfolios as well as directing the Stock Options Override program.  Prior to this position, he was a Second Vice-President and Pension Fund Manager at Chase Investors Management Company, a subsidiary of Chase Manhattan Bank.

Mr. Hoben is a member of several professional associations, including the CFA Institute, the New York Society of Security Analysts, and the Institute of Chartered Investment Counselors.  He has been both guest speaker and co-chairman of investment conferences nationwide.  His written essays on pension fund management have been published in international financial journals and presented in the United States and Japan.  He has held several advisory board positions with venture capital funds in the US and Europe.

Mr. Hoben is a member of the Investment Committee and Finance Council of the Diocese of Bridgeport and a trustee of Gaylord Hospital.  He is a former director of the investment firm A. G. Bisset Associates and a former member of the Lehigh University Endowment Investment Committee and a former Governor of the Squadron A Association in New York City.

Mr. Hoben served four years in the US Air Force with the rank First Lieutenant.  His formal education includes a BA in Finance from Lehigh University, an MS in Economics from Arizona State University and Ph.D graduate study in economics at New York University.  He has been published in Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who in American Society.  Mr. Hoben is active in charitable and civic organizations.  He is a knight of Malta.

Mr. Hoben and his wife, Joan, live in Darien, Connecticut.
