Eric D. Needleman currently serves as Chairman of Sterne Agee Group, Inc. and CEO of Sterne Agee and Leach, Inc., a privately-owned brokerage firm headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. Sterne Agee is a full-service financial services firm specializing in Investment Banking, Fixed Income, Capital Markets, Equities, Wealth Management and Trust Services. The firm currently has $27 billion in assets under management.
Mr. Needleman was promoted to Chairman of Sterne Agee Group, Inc. and CEO of Sterne Agee & Leach, Inc. in May 2014. As Chairman, he is responsible for overall company growth and development while working closely with auditors, regulators, creditors and business partners of the firm. As CEO of Sterne Agee & Leach Inc., the broker/dealer of Sterne Agee Group, Inc., Mr. Needleman is responsible for working closely with division heads to manage all lines of businesses encompassing over 500 professionals with offices across the US and in London.
Prior to his current roles, he served Sterne Agee as a Senior Executive Managing Director and Co-Head of Fixed Income where he was responsible for growing revenue, directing and implementing division strategy, and maintaining top talent. He was responsible for supervising over 200 employees across Fixed Income Sales, Trading, Research and Strategies. He joined the firm in 2009 as Head of High Yield Sales, Trading and Research and was promoted to Head of Fixed Income-Credit in 2010.
Before joining Sterne Agee, Mr. Needleman was Co-Head of U.S. Market Making and Head of High Yield Sales, Trading and Research at KBC Financial Products from 2002 - 2009. He started his career with Lehman Brothers and subsequently worked at Granchester Securities (high yield division of Wasserstein Perella) where he served as a Managing Director in both Sales, Trading and Research capacities from 1996 to 2002.
Mr. Needleman has served on Lehigh University’s College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s External Advisory Council since 2013. From 2007 to 2013, Mr. Needleman served as a board member of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Federation of Long Island.
Mr. Needleman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and a minor in English from Lehigh.
